Dust Clouds

Dust clouds are different from nebulas in that they are composed of finite particles of solid matter rather than hydrogen molecules. They are uncommon through most of the galaxy. Typically, a cloud is created by an asteroid field that has crushed itself into dust with continual grinding over the millenia. Some clouds could be the remains of a demolished planetoid. Traveling through these clouds is treacherous and will cause external damage to any ships that enter the region. Furthermore, visibility is hindered and targeting sensors will be marginally scrambled. Dust clouds can move as a result of gravitational forces and sometimes block shipping lanes. Class-A space buoys are placed around such clouds to redirect civilian traffic.
